2025-2026 LEARN TO PLAY

GHPYH Learn to Play Program for boys and girls looking to learn the game of hockey and develop their hockey skills, and introduce them to the great game of hockey. This is an in-house hockey program for kids ages 4-10. This program is for kids who have already started skating and looking to start learning the game of hockey in a cross ice game environment. Participants in Learn to Play Hockey must already know how to skate. You’ll be taught by our USA Hockey certified GHPYH coaching staff

What aged players are appropriate for this program?
Appropriate players ages 4-10 years old who should have completed at least one session of Learn-to-Skate.
When
What time of the year does this program run?
Learn to Play hockey program starts January to March, on Saturday mornings for ten weeks at 11am. Exact dates TBD

Where do these sessions take place?
Veteran's Memorial skating rink in Haverhill (behind the Haverhill High School). 137 Monument St, Haverhill, MA
Costs\Equipment
Costs for the 2025-2026 learn to play sessions have yet to be determined.
We provide two types of registration:

if you need equipment.

If you need equipment - TSR Hockey will be providing full equipment to all participants. This is included in the tuition. A fitting date/time will be sent out after successful payment. You will go to TSR Hockey at 5 Kelly Rd. Salem, NH to pick up your equipment before the first session.
(The price is the same if you don't need some/all of the equipment from TSR).

- HECC Hockey Helmet
- Jersey
- Skates
- Shin Guards
- Hockey Pants
- Shoulder Pads
- Elbow Pads
- Gloves
- Stick
If you don't need equipment- Your child must be wearing a hockey helmet with cage, gloves, skates, elbow pads, neck guard, and bring a hockey stick. Shin guards and shoulder pads are also recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child is ready for LTP Program?
This program is for kids who have already started skating, and have had at least one session of Learn to Skate, or a comparable beginner ice skating program. Participants in Learn to Play Hockey must already know how to skate.
What are my next options after completing Learn to Play Program?
There are two options for those moving on from Learn to Play.
Mite Instructional is a 3 on 3 cross-ice format that plays games once a week on Saturdays (in Newburyport, MA). You will also have a skill practice every Tuesday and team practice every Sunday AM. This is a great option to gauge your young players interests in the game. The cost for the 2025-26 season is $900.
If you are interested in playing in a more advanced level, at the age 8 and under, you can sign up for the 8U Travel team. There is greater commitment required in this program. You will have an additional practice hour each week and play in a 4 of 4 half ice format typically played in Methuen. The cost for the 2025-2026 program is $1,600.
