8U Mite Instructional League
The Mite Instructional hockey program is an in-house cross-ice league. It promises fun and instructive basic skills for any boy or girl who wishes to master the fundamentals of hockey.
Ages
What aged players are appropriate for this program?
Players are typically between 5-8 years-old and have basic skating skills of turning and stopping.
Kids who are 9 years of age or older would need to register for our Travel Program Teams.

Where
Where are practices and games held?
Practices and skills sessions are held at the Haverhill Veteran's Memorial Skating Rink in Haverhill, MA.
Games are played at Graf Rink in Newburyport
When
What time of the year does this program run?
Season starts in September and runs through February.
EQUIPMENT
Your child should have the following equipment, to participate on the ice
HECC Hockey Helmet, Skates, Shin Guards, Hockey Pants, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Gloves, and a Hockey Stick.
Practices
When are practices and how often are they?
Teams practice 1-2 times per week. We also have weekly Skills Sessions through out the season.
Games
How many games will they play? What days of the week?
Instructional Teams will play 20-22 games over the course of the season. All games are typically held on late Saturday afternoons at the Graf Rink in Newburyport.
Jerseys
Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?
All Players will be responsible for purchasing 2 game Jerseys. Prior season jerseys that were purchased, can be used from year to year
COSTS
Greater Haverhill Pentucket Youth Hockey tuition fee for the 2024-2025 Instructional season have NOT been determined as of yet. Below is our tuition cost for the 2023 season. We are hoping to keep the same costs for the 2024 season. A final determination on tuition will be decided in April.
- 2023 Instructional Mites (Green and Gold) - $900
These fees are inclusive of the $100 non refundable deposit, which was already paid when you register. The first installment payment is due May 15, 2024
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my player need to tryout for Instructional Mites?
No, tryouts are only for Travel 8U players and not for Instructional 8U players.
My child wants to play but is brand new to skating\hockey. Is this the right program?
We also offer Learn-to-Skate and Learn-to-Play Hockey programs each fall and winter. We will work with your family to make sure your player is placed in the correct program that helps foster a love for the sport and develop at the right pace.

It promises fun and instructive basic skills for any boy or girl who wishes to master the fundamentals of hockey.
The GHPYH Instructional Mites play in the Graf Instructional League. We will play 20-22 games over the course of the season from September, to end of February. All games are typically on late Saturday afternoons at the Graf rink in Newburyport.
