Information on how to enter your team into a tournament
For GHPYH Thunder Coaches and Team Managers
The GHPYH board encourages all teams to attend at least one tournament during the season. We
provide a $500 stipend towards tournament registration.
Tournament participation is the responsibility of the coaches/parents. This guide is meant to help you
navigate the process.
Tournaments, especially those with hotel stays, are the best ways to create core memories related to
youth hockey for the players. It’s a great way to begin and foster the development of positive team
culture. There are options for every age group and each level of play. The tournaments that are most
in demand fill up fast. It’s important that decisions are made early, and registrations are set.
Our recommendation is that the coaches work in conjunction with a team manager (and any other
parents willing to help) to select a tournament and complete all the necessary steps. Here is a quick
guideline of the steps typically required for the majority of tournaments.
1.Register the team for the tournament through the tournament website
- This typically requires a deposit payment
2.Distribute the tournament dates to your team so they can get it on their calendars
3.Communicate the tournament details to your age coordinator
- The board will add the dates/time to your Crossbar schedule
- The board will request blackout dates through the VHL for your tournament dates
4.Request a link your USA Hockey roster through the GHPYH USA Hockey Representative
- This will be required by all USA Hockey sanctioned tournaments
- All participating players & coaches must be on your stamped USA roster
- You will still be expected to provide roster stickers for each game
5.Arrange and communicate hotel reservations & team activity details
- Some tournaments (ie. CAN/AM) are considered “all inclusive” and require purchasing of a
team package
- Some will provide a list of participating hotels and require their use
- Others will leave hotel reservations, meals, and other details completely up to your discretion
